This is a neat little collection of classic matches from boxing's "Golden Era" as they were broadcast live on the radio. There are twelve matches in all, averaging about 35 - 40 minutes each, with a combined running time of 7 hrs and and 21 minutes and a file size of 403.7 megabytes. The matches included are:
Gene Tunney vs. Jack Dempsey
Joe Louis vs. Jack Sharkey, Billy Conn, Max Baer, Al Ettore, Red Burman, Tony Zale, and Jersey Joe Walcott
Tony Zale vs. Rocky Graziano
Chuck Davis vs. Ike Willians
Randy Turpin vs. Bobo Olson
Floyd Patterson vs. Hurricane Jackson
Ingemar Johansen vs. Floyd Patterson
As you can see there are some very good fighters represented here and some superb match-ups. The commentating is terrific, too; the way the sports reporters talked in those days is truly a lost art, and the whole atmosphere really takes you back in time to a totally different era of history, yet perhaps not quite as different as we sometimes tend to think. Before one of the Louis fights, for example, there is an impassioned speech by the announcer against racial prejudice, which kind of impressed me given the time of the fight -- the mid-late 1930s. However, because the time period involve spans from 1927 to 1959 the sound quality does vary, and in one or two cases the matches start up in progress, probably because the original tape was incomplete or damaged. However, these are minor flaws and don't really detract from the pleasure of listening to boxing's best clashing during the height of its popularity.

CLASSIC BOXING RADIO BROADCASTS Old Time Radio OTR Mp3 DVD 8 Classic Fights Various Books Reviews
Prompt delivery, great MP3. I have really enjoyed listening to these classic boxing broadcasts. The ringside commentators of yesteryear paint a vivid picture of some of the greatest fights. Calling the blow by blow to a prizefight is a dying art form.
